Handmade
In England
Traditional English period oak furniture has been made at Laurel
Bank since the mid 1970s. Each finished piece is a tribute to the
traditional skills of the craftsmen who have created it and to the
quality of the materials they have chosen to use. The timeless
pleasure that Oakwood Furniture brings to its owner remains to
be savoured each and every day.
The style is traditional British, based on research and
construction methods of antique pieces, incorporating the age
old methods of timber selection, preparation and assembly.
Each piece is individually handmade using only the finest oak.
An ageing technique is then carried out which will, when completed, give
an authentic appearance of an original. We are justifiably proud of the skills
and
materials used during the creation of the furniture, however, it is the finish
which is imparted to the furniture that uniquely distinguishes an Oakwood
piece from that of its competitors. The timber for each piece is carefully
chosen to give the final desired appearance and even before assembly is complete,
the ageing techniques begin. Once assembled, the cabinet makers then apply
the finishing coats, each one carefully carried out by hand and crafted to
build up a beautiful burnished appearance that is in keeping with the style
and character of an original.
The furniture shown on this web site is our standard range, available in many
different sizes and finishes. Other pieces, using alternative designs can
be made to your specification, if you so require. Depth of finish, colour
and ageing is given very careful consideration. This, coupled with the closest
attention to detail ensures lasting satisfaction.
